Volunteer Position Descriptions:
Mentor – One-to-one mentoring with an elementary-aged student for one hour per week during school hours (approximately 8:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.) You will be matched with a child that is available during the time that you are available. An educational background is not required; mentors will receive thorough training and ongoing support. The mentoring relationship requires a commitment for the entire school year (or remainder of the school year). We are seeking mentors on a continuing basis, so if you are reading this at any point after the start of the school year, we would still love to hear from you. Substitute mentors are available to fill in during those times mentors are on vacation, ill, etc. Mentors will often use materials provided by the teacher to help the child achieve a specific academic objective. Time is also set aside for relationship building (ideas and resources will be provided for this as well.) After each mentoring session, the mentor completes a brief Daily Progress Report summarizing their time with the child.

Substitute Mentor – Provide one-to-one mentoring for a child when his/her regular mentor is not available. The substitute mentor provides a critical link in maintaining the sense of an ongoing relationship that is being formed with the child. Your primary role will be to affirm the child. Your presence when the regular mentor is absent clearly says to the child, “Yes, we are committed to you.” Training and ongoing support are provided. |

Prayer Partner – You will be paired with one mentor/child relationship. Your commitment is to faithfully pray for the mentor and their child. Ideally you would be willing to contact the mentor on a regular basis by email or phone to ask for prayer needs regarding their mentoring relationship and any other prayer needs. Kids Hope USA states: “Prayer is the foundation for all we do through Kids Hope USA. Your willingness to keep the mentor and child supported through your prayers is critical for the success of the relationship.” In the interest of confidentiality, prayer partners are given only the first name of the child for whom they are praying.
